Grady Lavay VanLandingham:
1936-2020

Grady Lavay VanLandingham (Van), age 84, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020 at home in Greenbrier, TN surrounded by his closest loved ones.

He was born in Louisville, MS on January 28, 1936 to the late Emmette G. & Delcie Fulgham VanLandingham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a loving wife of 59 years, Judith Ann Ivester VanLandingham and his sisters; Bernise Dwain VanLandingham, Mary Gail Lovell and Jesse Keyland Tennyson. Before moving to Tennessee in 2017, he was a lifelong resident of Haywood County. Grady was a proud veteran and served in the Army from 1954 to 1957 as a Paratrooper. After returning home Grady found joy in traveling across the country, driving Big Rigs as an over the road truck driver. He retired from Champion International as a board hauler of many years. Grady enjoyed spending time working and nurturing his garden. He poured the same love, attention, and affection into his family. He found great happiness in sharing his values, stories, and wisdom with each of his friends and family. Grady was always the first to offer a helping hand and word of encouragement. For every small smile, loud laugh, and pat on the back he instilled a deep sense of security into each of his children and grandchildren.  Grady will be remembered for his strong and giving heart. His love will remain in the hearts of each person who had the opportunity to truly know him.

He is survived by his daughter, Tamara Hannah and her husband, Ray, of Canton; one son Michael Kevin VanLandingham of Canton; one sister Delcia Marlin Ogden, of Sacramento, CA; brothers; Zane Walton VanLandingham (Mary) of Ackermon, MS; Jimmy B. VanLandingham (Lilia) of Reno, NV.

Three grandchildren Corey Birchfield and wife Michelle, of Greenbrier, TN, Christopher Michael and Keri Ann VanLandingham of Hendersonville, NC ; two great grandchildren, Addison and Maddie Jo Birchfield; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Considering the current public health situation, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
