He was born on January 25, 1943, in Dickson County, Tennessee to his parents John Henry Mixon and Katie Mae Mixon, who preceded him in death. His sisters who also preceded him in death were Betty F. Potter, Lisa Carol Faulk, and Dorothy Gail Rogers.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; sister, Marie Paulette Austin; brother, Ricky Mixon; and daughter, Alicia.
