Lawrence Eugene "Gene" Moirs, Jr., 56, passed away on January 29, 2025, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Born on June 14, 1968, in Germany, Gene dedicated much of his life to craftsmanship, building and remodeling homes across the country. His career spanned from restoring historical homes in Charleston, South Carolina, to framing new houses throughout California, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He took immense pride in his work, ensuring that every project was completed with care and precision. A perfectionist at heart, he instilled in his children the values of hard work and dedication, teaching them that any goal could be reached with patience and effort.
Beyond his profession, Gene had a deep love for creating—whether it was constructing homes, working on cars and models, or simply fixing things around him. His passion extended into his hobbies; he enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and watching NASCAR. He was also an avid fan of horror movies and television shows and could occasionally be found playing video games with his children and grandchildren.
Above all else, Gene cherished his family. He is survived by his daughter, Haley Nicole Troutman; grandchildren: Chevelle Lang, Aria Troutman, and Remi Troutman; son, Gerald Carter Moirs; and grandchildren: Brian Moirs, Allison Moirs, Jackson Moirs, and Annabelle Moirs. He also leaves behind his brother, Jeff Smith and Jeff's children. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Ann Carter Moirs and Lawrence Moirs, Sr.
His grandchildren held a special place in his heart—he was known for sneaking them cookies and milk after bedtime and sharing movie marathons with them. His kindness knew no bounds; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In remembrance of Gene’s life and the love he shared with those around him, his children Gerald and Haley have shared a heartfelt tribute:
"Death cried today, as he took you in his hands.
He watched over you patiently as you raced against his sands.
He whispered to me softly how brave you were to the end—
That you will be well and lofty amongst your family and friends."
Though Gene is no longer physically present, the lessons he taught and the love he gave will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
