Matthew Michael Haas 1963-2021

Born and raised in New York, Matt was born with a smile on his face. Always the helper and a giver, Matt was a volunteer fireman for many years in Floral Park, NY and he was also a past member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. His good nature made it easy for him to make friends, some of whom he remained close to up until his sudden and untimely death on March 15, 2021.

Matt earned 2 degrees, a Bachelor’s in Business and a Master’s in Education so that he could follow his dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. He enjoyed and continued teaching students until his unexpected passing.

Matt met his wife of 32 years, Bonnie, on her birthday back in June 1984 and he was immediately smitten. Though they faced many challenges, they both knew they were meant for each other and knew their love would always prevail. They were married on September 4, 1988 in New York during a torrential downpour of rain. They happily welcomed their first bundle of joy, a daughter, Jessica, in November 1990 followed by a son, Scotty, in August 1993.

Matt and his wife moved from NY to Orlando, FL in 1995 where they raised their family and remained in Florida until moving to Tennessee for a teaching opportunity in 2018.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie, his daughter, Jessica Haas, his son, Scotty Haas, his parents, Gatia and Clinton Haas, a brother, Edward Haas (Lisa Haas), a sister, Patricia Haas, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law (Gayle & Allan Lampert), sister-in-law and brother-in-law, (Susan & Dean Hoffman) and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, (David & Susan Burden) and his mother-in-law, Marlane Burden.

He will also be greatly missed and remembered by the abundance of extended family and friends who loved him. His memory will be in our hearts forever.
