Mitchell “Mickey” Davis Rice, age 55, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Vanderbilt in Nashville. Mitchell was born May 8, 1968, in Robertson County to the late William Jerry Rice, Sr. and Shirley Nadine (White) Rice.
In addition to his parents, Mitchell is preceded in death by his brother, William “Petie” Jerry Rice, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carolyn Joyce Rice; two daughters, Jessica (Justin) Ferrante and Brandee (Raymond) Coonce; son, Steven (Christy) Mefford; grandchildren: Matthew Robert Coonce, Brianna Nicole Coonce, and Tobias “peanut” Samuel Ferrante; one grandchild on the way; sister, Joyce “Fuzz” (Mike) Gupton; nieces; nephew; two great nieces; two great nephews; aunt; and many cousins.
Mitchell was a jack of all trades. He was a firm believer that duct tape and WD-40 would fix anything. He may have only had a “GED” but he was the smartest man I know. Mitchell loved Bluegrass and Nascar. He would play both on his phone, connected to a portable speaker, attached to his tractor while he went riding. He may have loved music and cars, but he loved his family more.
He will always be our favorite redneck and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
