In Loving Memory of Rose S. Washington
MOTHER
By Tamsen Butler
More loving than most
Often right, even when I thought she was wrong
Truly my biggest cheerleader
Heaven welcomed her with open arms
Every day without her will be empty
Radiance has now moved on
First Breath: July 5, 1942
Last Breath: January 19, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rose S. Washington, a beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. Born to Gracie Mae and Joe B. Smith, Rose entered the world on July 5, 1942, gracing it with her warmth, intelligence, and unshakable dedication to those she held dear.
Rose was a proud alumna of Tennessee State University, where she earned her Master’s degree in education. She dedicated 35 years of her life to shaping young minds as a teacher at Greenbrier Middle School. Her passion for education and her unwavering belief in the potential of her students left an indelible mark on countless lives.
Above all, Rose cherished her family. She was the devoted mother of Priscilena and Jonathan, and a doting grandmother to three grandchildren, whom she simply adored: Erica Frednetta Jo Jenkins (lovingly known as Fred), Graceshous Grayshia-Rose Shearon (endearingly called Bud), and Giovanni Phillips (Gio). Her grandchildren brought boundless joy to her life, and she often spoke of them with immense pride and affection.
Rose’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the countless ways she touched the lives of others.
